Florida vs. Richmond: Gators Aim to Finish Non-Conference Schedule With Win Over Spiders

In their final tune-up game before the grind of the SEC begins, #12 Florida (10-2) will open 2014 and close their non-conference schedule with Richmond (10-4) today.

The Spiders are riding a two-game win streak and are 2-1 all-time against Florida, most recently defeating them 56-53 in the 2009 Orange Bowl Classic. They also boast a 4-2 away record, falling only to North Carolina 82-72 (neutral site game) and at Wake Forest 76-66 in overtime, and so have a decent shot at the Gators coming into Gainesville.

Florida may have something to say about that though, being only two wins away from tying their home winning streak at 24 games. Plus, the Gators have been challenged against better competition, with a 2-2 record against ranked opponents compared to the Spiders’ 0-1 record (North Carolina was ranked 24th).

The Gators have also been defending well lately, limiting Fresno State and Savannah State, their last two opponents, to 83 points and 28.3 percent shooting combined. But the Spiders are coming off a season-high shooting percentage of 55.1 at Northeastern.

Florida’s probable starters include senior forwards Will Yeguete and Casey Prather, senior center Patric Young, senior guard Scottie Wilbekin and sophomore guard Michael Frazier II. Richmond will likely go with sophomore forwards Trey Davis and Alonzo Nelson-Ododa, senior forward Derrick Williams, junior guard Kendall Anthony and senior guard Cedrick Lindsay.

Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. Catch the game on TV through CSS / CST and WatchESPN or on the radio through ESPN 850 WRUF and Gator IMG Sports Network (Sirius 110, XM 199).
