Former Florida Safety Matt Elam Seals the Win for Baltimore Ravens With Career-Best Performance

There’s no question that former Gator and rookie safety Matt Elam enjoyed the best game of his young career this past Monday. He would’ve looked a little silly if he hadn’t. Elam made national attention when, prior to the Monday Night Football match-up between his Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions, he trash-talked opposing wide receiver Calvin Johnson, calling him “pretty old” (Johnson is 28, Elam is 22). During the game, it seemed like Elam would end up eating his words when he started off poorly, racking up 15 yards on a penalty and missing a tackle on a pass-play that went for 17 yards. He bounced back in a big way, though, making a career-high 10 tackles and shutting down the Lions’ potential game-winning drive with his first career interception, ensuring an 18-16 Baltimore win.
