Pease Out: Florida Fires OC Brent Pease

After weeks of speculation, the Associated Press’s Mark Long confirmed what everyone had already known. Florida Head coach Will Muschamp fired offensive coordinator Brent Pease.

The Gators ranked 112th in total offense this season, averaging just 316.7 yards and 18.8 points. As a comparison, Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr averages 406 passing yards per game. Florida had just 1,749 yards rushing, while Boston College’s Andre Williams outrushed the entire Florida team with 2,102 yards. Pease had two years left on his contract after being Florida’s OC for two years. He’s owed about $1.2 million for the final two years of his contract. Now Muschamp will be looking for his third offensive coordinator in his four years in Gainesville. Two names that have been in the discussion to replace Pease are Jacksonville head coach and former Florida QB Kerwin Bell and Western Kentucky head coach Bobby Petrino. However, Long also reports these names most likley won’t be considered.

It’s expected that more changes will occur with the Gators’ coaching staff, with offensive line coach Tim Davis likely following Pease. Florida boosters have a meeting tonight to discuss the future of the coaching staff.

UPDATE: 12/1/2013 2:00 pm:

Davis is indeed out, per CBS Sports’ Bruce Feldman:

The offensive line gave up 56 sacks this year and had two quarterbacks injured. This will likely be the last of the staff changes for Florida. The Gators will need the coaches to continue their recruiting efforts.
