Florida senior point guard Scottie Wilbekin has been reinstated and will play Monday as the Gators hit the road to face the Jacksonville Dolphins. Head coach Billy Donovan said he’s proud of Wilbekin’s progress, has served his time, and has become more humble during this process. Donovan also said Wilbekin will play his normal minutes. Wilbekin gives the Gators a true point guard when he takes the court Monday because freshman PG Kasey Hill injured his ankle against Southern University last Monday. Hill got his walking boot taken off, but the Gators will continue to be cautious with him. Wilbekin averaged almost 32 minutes per game last season with 9.1 points, 5 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.
Donovan also said that forward/center Damontre Harris continues to not be with the team. Donovan said there “is no level of accountability” with Harris and “he’s dug himself and continues to dig himself a big hole.” Harris is struggling with going to class, being on time, working hard, and answering his phone, Donovan continued, and he has no hopes of Harris returning to the team. Harris transferred from South Carolina and has yet to play a game for Florida. He hasn’t been with the team since November 1.
Florida’s game at Jacksonville starts at 7 pm and can be seen on Fox Sports Florida for those of us living in Florida.
