Florida-Georgia Southern Connections. Florida and Georgia Southern haven’t had much history on the field, but the two programs have been intertwined with relationships. Beth Monken, Georgia Southern head coach Jeff Monken’s wife, received both of her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Florida and was also a Gator cheerleader. Richard Bowles, composer of UF’s “The Orange and Blue” and longtime director of bands at Florida, also composed the Georgia Southern Fight Song.
Swimming & Diving Signs Class Including No. 1 Overall Recruit. The number one recruit in the nation is a Gator and the rich get richer. Top-ranked men’s swimming and diving team added Caeleb Dressel, the number one recruit, Ben Kennedy, John Farese, Geoffroy Gagnon, Andrew Brady, and Mark Szaranek. The fourth-ranked women’s swimming and diving team signed two in Chelsea Lawson and Paige Scheriger. Soccer Ousted by Duke. Second-seeded Florida soccer’s season ended on Friday night with a 1-0 loss at Duke. The Blue Devils scored off of a corner kick by Natasha Anasi. The Gators had a couple of good chances 25th and 75th minutes, but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. Goal keeper Taylor Burke saved seven shots and Florida outshot Duke 11-7, but it wasn’t enough for the Gators.
Volleyball Sweeps LSU on Senior Night. The seventh-ranked Gator volleyball team finished up their regular season in the O’Connell Center with a sweep over the LSU Tigers. Seniors Taylor Brauneis and Chloe Mann both turned in some great performances. Bruaneis had 39 assists, all but two for Florida, and Mann had 10 kills, .714 hitting percentage, and no errors. Gabby Mallette had a career night with 15 kills. Florida concludes the regular season against Kentucky in Lexington Wednesday.
