Matt Jones, Florida Gators running back, left the field early in Saturday’s game against the LSU Tigers. He was seen on the sideline with his left knee heavily wrapped. He then did not take the field with the rest of the Gators when the second half began. Later, he was on the sideline but out of pads.
Fortunately, Muschamp said Matt Jones’ knee injury is not believed to be serious.
With Jones out, the Gators went with a dose of Mack Brown and Kelvin Taylor. Soon though, Mack Brown suffered a left ankle/foot injury in the 3rd quarter. It was taped up on the sideline, and he returned to the game in the 4th quarter. On the day, he carried the ball 15 times for 56 yards (average of 3.7). His injury was considerably less severe than Jones’.
Freshman RB Kelvin Taylor, son of Gator great Fred Taylor, carried some of the load for the Gators late in the game, rushing 10 times for 51 yards (5.2 ypc). It doesn’t look like he will be applying for that redshirt after all.
Florida rushed for a total of 111 yards on the day while LSU put up over 170 yards on the ground. The Tigers defense stifled the Gators running game, putting a lot of pressure on Tyler Murphy. That didn’t make things easy for Murphy, who was making his 3rd career start.
