If you’ve been reading since I’ve started writing here at Hail Florida Hail, then you know I’ve been on the Solomon Patton train all along (Ex. 1 & 2). It seems, though, the Gator fans have only opened their eyes to the speedster’s abilities after his impressive performance against Arkansas.
On both of his touchdown receptions against the Razorbacks, Patton turned 1st down passes from Murphy into long touchdowns. On the first one, Murphy fired a pass to Patton that would have been about a 13 yard gain. Instead, Patton shed a would be tackler and raced up the sideline for a 51 yard TD run. On the second touchdown, the pass was only 9 yards but again Patton used his speed to race down the sideline, shed a tackle, juke a man at the two yard line, and waltz into the end zone.
While Driskel’s favorite receiver seemed to be Trey Burton, it is already evident that Tyler Murphy has developed trust in the 5-9 senior wide receiver. He already has 269 more receiving yards and 11 more receptions than his previous three season combined.
While Patton has shown his down field prowess, he still is a guy that is dangerous on an end around or jet sweep. Because of his speed, defenses must know where he is on the field at all times.
Patton will look to continue his impressive season in Baton Rouge this week against LSU. The Tigers have allowed a hundred yard receiver in three of their six contests this season.
