Florida will head into Death Valley on Saturday to face off against Zach Mettenberger and the LSU Tigers. While Mettenberger was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week, throwing for 340 yards, 2 touchdowns and completing 86 percent of his passes, Georgia has been his toughest opponent thus far. The Bulldogs are ranked 20th in total defense.
Florida has their own SEC (Defensive) Player of the Week: corner Loucheiz Purifoy. The Pensacola product and the rest of the Gators defense is ranked 2nd in the country. It’s probably time that Mettenberger’s honeymoon comes to an end.
The Gators are no novice when defending high powered offenses, they held a explosive Miami offense to only 21 points in a game, that if turnover free, Florida should have won. Miami is ranked only a spot (24) behind LSU (23) in total offense. In addition, Miami’s run game gives them a more balanced offense than LSU.
Vernon Hargreaves III is one of the best freshman in the country, and Muschamp said Marcus Roberson will play against LSU. “We’ll just rotate and make plays” said Muschamp. So Odell Beckham will see a heavy doss of all the Gators CBs have to offer.
LSU, which has allowed 11 sacks on the season, will face a Florida front line that, even without Dominique Easley, are constantly disruptive. Chucky’s new godparent, Dante Fowler Jr., has stepped up big time with Easley out.
The constant nagging on Mettenberger should make things even easier for the Florida DBs, or the No Fly Zone.
