Jeff Driskel left the game in the 1st quarter. Gators head coach Will Muschamp said after the game that he is out for the 2013 season and Tyler Murphy is the starting quarterback heading forward.
Muschamp later clarified by saying he will have surgery one his “fibia” (commonly known as fibula). It was later released that it is in fact a fractured fibula.
Driskel came under heavy fire after his performance against Miami. His first couple passes against Tennessee did not look amazing either. He was hit while throwing. It resulted in an interception and after attempting to get up, fell back to the ground. He looked like he was in a lot of pain but was able to walk off the field under his own power. Usually that is a good sign but in this case, the worst happened.
Luckily for Florida, Tyler Murphy filled in nicely, throwing for one touchdown and rushing for one more. Murphy brings a similar mobility that Driskel did. Obviously he does not have the same experience that Driskel does but in terms of playing style, they are almost identical.
Looking ahead, Mack Brown could be your starting running back and Tyler Murphy is your starting quarterback. No one would have believed that at the start of the season.
Skyler Mornhinweg is now your back-up quarterback.
Best wishes to Driskel and his family.
