With Matt Jones sidelined by an illness, Mack Brown wasted no time in stepping up to the plate. Muschamp had no problem handing the ball to him either; the former Under Armour All American carried the ball 25 times for 112 yards and 2 TDs. That is 10 more yards than he rushed for all of last season.
“I had tears in my eyes. I felt useless the last couple years,” Brown said about walking out of the tunnel.
Regardless of when Matt Jones returns, Brown has gained the trust of the coaching staff. He showed great patience in the backfield, waiting for the proper openings. When in the open field, the Mack Attack put on the afterburners to rip off long runs, including one of 23 yards. Even with that run and two other touchdown scampers, Brown had a different choice for favorite play of the game.
“The cut-block on the score pass when Gideon scored. when I cut the D-end,” Brown said.
You’re not going to here that often out of a runningback but that just goes to show Brown’s team first mentality.
Consistent the entire game, Mack gave the crowd an extra something special with this broken tackle.
Brown’s hard working mentality and investment in the Muschamp system will keep him on the field the rest of the year regardless of Jones’ return. A 1-2 punch with Brown complementing could be very potent
