Rivals.com released their first National Top 100 list for 2014 and two of the Florida Gators commits were on it.
Quarterback Will Grier from Davidson, North Carolina Day high school checks in at #18 overall and is the second ranked qb behind dual threat star Deshaun Watson. His ranking gives him a high four star rating on Rivals as only the top 14 are considered five star players.
Grier set a national high school record last season when he threw for 837 yards and ten touchdowns in a playoff victory. As a sophomore, he threw 3785 yards, 49 touchdowns, and only 12 interceptions. He also rushed 97 times for 925 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a junior last season, he passed for 5785 yards and 69 touchdowns with only 6 interceptions while rushing for 813 yards and 8 touchdowns. Keep in mind he plays against lower classification schools so his competition isn’t necessarily top flight but analysts like his arm strength, his decision-making ability, and his leadership skills.
He made it known that he wanted to commit early so that he could concentrate on his schoolwork and his senior season of football but he also wanted to get a leg up on recruiting other great players to Florida serving as the “point guard” of his class in his own words.
At #46 in the Rivals rankings you find defensive tackle Travonte Valentine, 6-4 295, from Palm Bay, Florida. He was the Gators second commit for the 2014 cycle giving them the nod back in July of 2012 during Friday Night Lights after previously being committed to Louisville.
Valentine is a big, strong, high-motor guy who plays with good pad level and solid technique. Despite his early commitment he is still actively being recruited hard by Louisville and expect other top programs to get in on his recruitment as we head toward the summer camp season.
