The latest BCS standings are out and the Gators remained 4th, barely behind number three Georgia. A mere .029 separates Georgia and Florida.
Sadly though, the Gators are on the outside looking in on the BCS Championship Game. Undefeated Notre Dame, a unanimous BCS number one will surely take on the winner of the SEC Championship game next weekend in Atlanta.
Florida likely gets the door prize of a guaranteed BCS game appearance if they can manage to stay in the top four of the standings next week. If so, they are expected to end up with a Sugar Bowl invite.
The Gators, who have been the computer darlings for weeks based on their top strength of schedule, haven’t been “sexy” enough for poll voters in the Harris and USA Today coaches poll which make up two thirds of the BCS standings.
After dominating their fifth BCS top ten team, the FSU Seminoles, on the road. the Gators apparently are still not sexy enough. They only moved from sixth to fifth in both polls which was not enough to push them past either the Bulldogs or the Tide.
So a Sugar Bowl berth against an still to be determined foe and an opportunity to end the season on a high note with a high BCS ranking are what lays ahead for this team. Nonetheless this team exceeded all expectations this year and showed a character that has been lacking in this program in years.
