Florida placekicker Caleb Sturgis was named one of three finalists for the Lou Groza Award today by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. It’s the second consecutive season he was named a finalist
Sturgis, from St. Augustine, Florida, has kicked 20-24 field goals on the season as well as 28-29 extra points. Three of his four misses this season were blocked. His twenty field goals leads the SEC this year and is fifth in the nation. He set a Gator career record in field goals from 50+ this season with eight after kicking three this year.
The other finalists are Florida State kicker Dustin Hopkins, who is 22-26 in field goals and 56-57 in extra points, and Tulane kicker Cairo Santos, who is 20-20 and 24-25 on PAT’s.
The winner will be announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show December 6 at 7:30 pm EST live from the Disney World Resort.
Finalists will be highlighted on the Home Depot College Football Awards Nomination Show on ESPNU tonight at 6 pm EST. Hosted by Matt Shick, the show will include player interviews and analysis by Kevin Carter concerning Lou Groza finalists and other college football award finalists.
