Cornerback and special teams star Loucheiz Purifoy was name SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week by the league office today.
Purifoy, 6’1″ 189 lbs, blocked a punt which led to a game winning 36 yard touchdown by Jelani Jenkins with 2 seconds left on the clock.
It was the second punt block of the season for Purifoy.
Purifoy had a total of 5 tackles and a pass deflection in the game.
He shares the honor this week with Andrew Baggett a 6’2″ 215 lb kicker for Missouri who kicked a game winning 35 yard field goal against Tennessee in the fourth overtime.
Freshman phenom Johnny “Johnny Football” Manziel was named the SEC Player and Freshman of the week after leading Texas A&M to a huge road upset of former number one Alabama. Manziel, 6’1″ 200 lbs, was 24-31 for 253 yards and two touchdowns and added 92 yards rushing on 18 attempts.
Manziel became only the second freshman to rush for 1000 yards and pass for 2000 in the same season. Brad Smith of Missouri was the other.
