The No. 1 Florida Gators baseball team has done it again. And by it we mean win. And by again we mean over and over and over. For the third consecutive game, the victim was the Vanderbilt Commodores. That third win over Vandy is the 17th in a row for the Gators over all opponents. If you haven’t been paying attention to this team, now is as good a time as any to start.
It’s becoming increasingly evident that beyond goal number one of a national championship for their beloved Florida Gators, all orange and blue fans should be keeping their fingers crossed for four full seasons of Taylor Gushue. The freshman had just one hit in three at-bats on Sunday, but that one hit was a homerun – Gushue’s fifth of the season. Preston Tucker and Casey Turgeon also went yard.
While the Gators improved to 19-1 with the win, the series was costly to Florida. Tyler Thompson tore his ACL during the Friday game. The news is bad for both Thompson and the Gators, although this may be the deepest squad Florida has ever had.
The Gators are off on Monday before hosting Samford on Tuesday.
