The No. 1 Florida Gators opened their series against the William & Mary Tribe with a 4-1 victory on Friday night. With the win, the Gators improve to 5-1 on the season while the Tribe drop to 2-3.
The hero was senior outfielder Tyler Thompson. Thompson his a solo homerun in the fifth inning that would prove to be the game-winner. Thompson went 2-for-4 in the game to up his season batting average to .278.
Fans will have to wait another game for senior first baseman/outfielder Preston Tucker to hit those offensive milestones we’ve been talking so much about. Tucker went 0-for-4.
Two juniors pitchers combined for the victory. Hudson Randall started and pitched 6.1 innings to get the win. He was followed up by Austin Maddox who pitched the final 2.2 to record the save.
The Gators and Tribe face off again on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
