James Wilson Hopes For Sixth Year With Florida Gators

by Florida Gators Football

Florida Gators guard James Wilson has petitioned the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility. Wilson – who redshirted during his true freshman year in 2007 and then missed most of 2010 – has appeared in 38 games and started six over the course of his career.

Coming out of Nease High School as a member of the 2007 recruiting class, Wilson was one of the highest ranked prospects in the nation. According to Rivals.com, Wilson was the No. 1 offensive guard and No. 12 recruit overall. He followed teammate Tim Tebow to Gainesville in hopes of becoming a star. Five years later, Wilson is looking to extend his Florida career for one more season.

Wilson has had a rough career full of injuries and transfer speculation. There was a time where it seemed like he was out the door and on the way to Wake Forest. Wilson stuck it out though and remained with the Gators even as his career didn’t turn into anything like he expected.

In 2012, Wilson will be expected to fight for a starting spot. The Gators need help along the offensive line wherever they can get it; even if it’s just an extra body supplying depth.
