The Preview

Fresh off of their biggest win of the young season, the Gators will look to carry that momentum into the series with the Tribe. Florida is showing its muscle of the nation’s top team and proving it’s worthy of the spot. At 4-1, the Gators are off to a hot start they will need to carry much deeper into the season. In only three short weeks, the SEC schedule begins and we’re all aware of just how good the conference is and is expected to be.

The Gators are led by the dynamic duo of senior Preston Tucker and junior Mike Zunino. Tucker is batting .450 and leads Florida with three homeruns, six RBI, 20 total bases and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Not to be outdone, Zunino – the reigning SEC Player of the Year – leads the team with a .474 batting average, is tied for the lead with six runs, has two homeruns, five RBI and a .895 slugging percentage. The two will be the key to the Gators’ success throughout the 2012 season.

This entire weekend we’ll be keeping an eye on Tucker as he continues to rack up the milestones. He is one hit away from sole possession of fifth place on the school’s career hit list and one RBI away from being the career leader.

This series is a great chance for Florida to continue to make a big statement. The season is still young, but a series sweep with three convincing victories will be exactly what the polls want to see from their No. 1 team.
