by Florida Gators Baseball

On Saturday, the No. 1 Florida Gators defeated No. 25 Cal State Fullerton Titans 5-2 to go up 2-0 in the weekend series. The Gators have started the season with two-straight wins over the Titans and will look to close out the series with another victory on Sunday afternoon.

On Friday in the season opener, Florida’s four-run seventh inning powered the Gators to a win. On Saturday, it was a four-run fourth that did the same. The Titans were leading 2-0 at the time, but one bad half-inning led to their downfall once again. This could be common occurrence this season as Florida can find its offense at any time.

The star of the game was junior relief pitcher Austin Maddox. In four innings, Maddox allowed no runs and only one hit to pick up the save. Freshman designated hitter Taylor Gushue put in another solid performance in only his second game in a Gators’ uniform. He went 1-for-3 with a triple, a run, and two RBI.

The Gators and Titans close out their series at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
