Only one day after National Signing Day 2012, the Florida Gators doubled the size of their 2013 football recruiting class. The first of the new commits is Jacksonville, FL (First Coast) linebacker Daniel McMillian. The 6’3″, 220-pound McMillian is part of ESPN’s 2013 top 150, ranks in at No. 146 on 247’s list, and had offers from Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, South Carolina and others. The linebacker is sure to be one of the nation’s best at the position when all of the recruiting services start put together their watch lists.
It’ll be interesting to see if McMillian’s commitment has an impact on the recruitment of additional 2013 recruits from First Coast. The school has two defensive backs in particular that fit right into the mode Will Muschamp looks for in terms of size. Cornerback Darius Witty is 6’1″, 180 pounds while safety Tyrell Lyons measures in at 6’2″, 200. The Buccaneers have another FBS prospect in defensive end Seyvon Lowrey. Lowrey currently has an offer from Ole Miss.
Hopefully McMillian’s commitment means good things are on the way for Florida recruiting in the Jacksonville area. That’s a pipeline the Gators need to consistently take advantage of.
